thought for the day:

your clothes DIRECTLY affects the way you think,
the way you feel,
the way you act,

INVESTMENT PIECES

As a stylist and wardrobe planner the question I probably have to answer the most is:
"Which items would you recommend as the "wardrobe basics"?'

After hours of research and using my own fashion-savvy-sense I've compiled the INVESTMENT LIST for my clients.

The items on this list are not only the must-haves in your wardrobe, but they are also the pieces in which you invest a little more money (to ensure that they are of great quality and will last) and a little more time to find.

So here goes, THE INVESTMENT LIST:

1. A GOOD WINTER COAT
2. A TRENCH COAT
3. A SHORT BLAZER/ JACKET
4. A PAIR OF BLACK SLIM PANTS
5. A PAIR OF CLASSIC CUT PANTS (not black)
6. A PAIR OF GOOD JEANS
7. A WHITE BUTTON SHIRT
8. A LITTLE BLACK DRESS
9. A VARIETY OF CAMISOLES, TEES AND VESTS (in all the basic colours, in a style that suits your body shape)
10. A PAIR OF QUALITY SUNGLASSES (to suit your facial shape and natural colouring & hairstyle)
11. A GENUINE LEATHER HANDBAG
12. A CLASSIC CLUTCH
13. A PAIR OF KNEE-HIGH BOOTS
14. A PAIR OF PUMPS
15. A PAIR OF GORGEOUS, ALL ROUNDER HEELS (preferable black/ tan)

Each item on this list has been put there for a very good reason. When I address a group of women at events I attend as a guest speaker, they are always extremely impressed by how they are able to achieve a great number of different looks (day to evening, casual to smart to formal), ALL by ONLY using the above mentioned items (or some of these items).

The most important factors to keep in mind when going out to purchase your Investment Pieces are
A. FIT (clothes should fit you properly) and
B. STYLE (the style should compliment the features of your body that you want to enhance whilst at the same time help you camouflage those feature which you feel are not your best).

happy dressing, Madeline

TRENDS spring/summer 2011/2012

 1. BLACK HIGH WAISTED SHORTS
These shorts are lovely for Summer nights out. Wear with a cream lace top, tucked in and tan, gladiator heels.
For a daytime work look wear with a white collared shirt, pearls, 3/4 sleeved jacket and black pumps.
 2. THE BLUSH BLAZER
This rosy hued jacket gives a romantic feel to any any outfit.
It can be dressed down for a casual day look, worn with skinny jeans and flats or look elegant over a dress, worn with heels for a more formal look.
Jackets look great when accessorized with a clutch.

3. THE LONG SLEEVED TUNIC DRESS
As seen here on Kim Kardashian, the loose fitting, long sleeved tunic should be worn over bare legs - with either pumps, heels or ankle boots (depending on the look you want to achieve). Adjust the shape of your tunic with a belt at or below the waist.

such gorgeous stationary: By BLACK COCO STATIONARY BOUTIQUE

InBloom was recently involved with the SA School of Weddings and L'Atelier when they did a charity fundraising event called the Wedding Wish.

In the attempt to raise enough funds to sponsor a wedding for someone in need, they managed to raise enough funds to make 4 wedding dreams come true.

The event, held at L'Aquila Conference Venue and Spa just outside Pretoria, was made possible by many, mostly wedding, service providers. And what a vibey bunch of interesting, young women they are.

To me personally, Black Coco Stationary Boutique stood out. Absolutely loved their designs and quality.
Be sure to keep them at the top of your list when having to design your own wedding stationary or even business stationary perhaps.

Tidy up your wardrobe :

What your wardrobe SHOULD look like ...

My dear friend, Maria Janse Van Rensburg, is probably one of THE best dressed people I have ever met. Besides her minute frame and extraordinary well chosen sense of personal style, she keeps her wardrobe neat, organized (colour coded and garment-types together) - which I believe adds to her ability to dress so well.

Some easy wardrobe tips:
1. A clear and visible method of storing clothes is vital; if something is hidden away it's too easy to forget that you own it
2. You need to have a full-length mirror : how else can you tell if the proportions of an outfit work or what shoes will look best with it?
3. Do not hang knits as they will stretch out of shape. Fold them and stack in piles, the heaviest ones at the bottom.
4. Scented drawer liners/ sachets or fabric softener refill packs will keep your clothes smelling fresh. Use especially if you like antique wardrobes.
5. Keep a laundry basket next to your wardrobe or inside your closet. Put creased or dirty clothes straight into the bin. Everything inside your wardrobe should be clean, pressed and ready to wear.

If you need help with organizing your wardrobe or need more advice & tips, send an email to info@inbloom.co.za

Curves in all the wrong places ...

So maybe you've gained a few kilo's over the festive season and you are not sure how to address these 'issues' in your wardrobe. Some tools to help you look good until you've shed the extra kilo's :

Tip # 1 . Wear a good push-up bra.
It will lift your bust and lengthen your torso to create a slimmer silhouette.

Tip # 2 . For a bit of a tummy, wear tops that skim, rather than cling. Tunic tops which are very much in fashion now will work great over darker coloured pants. For best results wear similar or matching colours top and bottom, an unbroken line will look more streamlined.

Tip # 3 . Do NOT wear high (turtle/ poloneck) or frilly, ruffled necklines or bold graphic prints.

Tip # 4 . Do wear tummy control panties, a ruched 1-piece swimsuit, smaller prints, cross-over and v-neck tops and jerseys, statement jewellery and big sunglasses.

InBloom Styling Services

Services :

Style Therapy 101

A Wardrobe Session taking 2-4 hours @ R260 per hour

(the exact time depends on the size and condition of your wardrobe)

Your stylist meets you prior to your Wardrobe Session for a cup of coffee to discuss your wardrobe needs and/ or issues and to set up an appointment for your session.

During your Wardrobe Session, you and your stylist go through your wardrobe with your goals in mind and together you decide on which items should stay, which items need some alterations, which items are to be sold/ donated to charity and which basic items are missing and should be included onto your shopping list.

You are advised on styles, fits, cuts and colours that suit you best and also on how to use what you have to make your wardrobe work better for you.

Retail Therapy 101

(with or with-out the client)

The cost varies : R330 per hour if the trip is accompanied by the client and R420 per hour if unaccompanied.

PLEASE NOTE: RETAIL THERAPY SESSIONS ARE BOOKED FOR 1 OR 2 HOURS AT A TIME, AND BOOKINGS ARE MADE BEFORE HEADING TO THE SHOPS. THIS IS TO AVOID MISUNDERSTANDINGS BETWEEN CLIENT & STYLIST AND IT KEEPS THE CLIENT IN CONTROL OF HOW MUCH HE/ SHE CAN AFFORD TO SPEND!

After your Wardrobe Session, your stylist has a complete understanding of your wardrobe needs, your lifestyle, your budget and your general preferences with regard to clothing and where you shop.

Items are set aside for you to fit and purchase at the shops or brought to the comfort of your home to choose from; the unwanted items are returned.

Wardrobe Therapy 101

This service is only available to clients who has completed the initial Wardrobe Session and is charged @ R480 per month.

Once a month your stylist will do a routine check-up of your wardrobe, taking approximately an hour. Here she ensures your wardrobe is maintained and that all items are properly cared for (some items may be taken to be dry cleaned, shoes may be taken for re-heeling etc). This service also includes an hour of special services : occasion styling, reorganising of your wardrobe and/ or sourcing special garments as requested.
